Prayers prepared by Peter to accompany the pilgrims on Camino 2007

..mind you aren't we all?

A Pilgrim's Prayer

For all your blessings, Heavenly Father, known to me, and for all unknown, accept my hearty
thanks. May I not murmur at your providence or dread the unknown future. Whatever befalls
me, help me to believe in Your own unfailing care and to know that in the valley of the shadow
You are by my side. Amen

God be with thee in every pass, Jesus be with thee on every hill
Spirit be with thee on every stream, headland and ridge and lawn;
Each sea and land, each moor and meadow,
Each lying down, each rising up,
In the trough of the waves, on the crest of the billows,
Each step of the journey thou goest.
Carmina Gadelica

Peace & Love
St Paul’s Beaconsfield

A journey once taken alone
we now choose to take together.
Moving forward as one body
into a future filled with possibility,
we walk without maps,
but we walk confidently,
and we walk with hope,
because we have chosen to be lights
for each other, while on the way.
We travel forward along a way
we have not gone before;
we travel as one who is led,
arms outstretched,
as one who is called forth to life.
We travel in need,
dependent on the Lord
for strength, for assurance;
dependent on each other,
God's instruments, for love.
Leaving known paths behind us,
we choose to journey forward
in faith and service.
As the journey brought us here,
so now we begin it anew,
in company.

Camino de Santiago 2007

St Jean - Roncesvalles - Pamplona - Burgos - Leon - Ponferrada - Santiago - Finisterre
Give me my scallop-shell of quiet,
My staff of faith to walk upon,
My scrip of joy, immortal diet,
My bottle of salvation,
My gown of glory, hope's true gage ;
And thus I'll take my pilgrimage.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside the quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. "

Be thou a bright flame before me,
Be thou a guiding star above me,
Be thou a smooth path below me,
Be thou a kindly shepherd behind me,
Today, tonight and forever.
St Columba

Eternal light, shine in our hearts;
Eternal goodness, deliver us from evil;
Eternal power, be our support;
Eternal wisdom, scatter the darkness of our ignorance;
Eternal pity, have mercy upon us;
That with all our hearts and mind and soul and strength
We may seek thy face
And be brought by thine infinite mercy
To thy holy presence
Through our Lord, Jesus Christ.

God to enfold me, God to surround me,
God in my speaking, God in my thinking,
God in my sleeping, God in my waking,
God in my watching, God in my hoping,
God in my life, God in my lips,
God in my soul, God in my heart,
God in my suffering, God in my slumber,
God in mine ever-living soul,
God in my eternity.
Carmina Gadelica

Blessing and brightness, wisdom, thanksgiving,
Great power and might to the king who rules over all.
Glory and honour and goodwill,
Praise and the sublime song of minstrels,
Overflowing love from every heart to the king of heaven and earth.
To the chosen trinity has been joined
Before all, after all, universal blessing,
Blessing and everlasting blessing,
Blessing everlasting and blessing.
Old Irish, 9th century

Nunc dimittis

At last, all-powerful Master,
You give leave to your servant
To go in peace, according to your promise.
For my eyes have seen your salvation
Which you have prepared for all nations,
A light to enlighten the gentiles
And give glory to Israel, your people.

St Patrick's Breastplate

Christ as a light
Illumine and guide me Christ as a shield O'ershadow me
Christ under me
Christ over me
Christ beside me
On my left and my right
This day be within and without me
Lowly and meek yet All-powerful
Be in the heart Of each to whom I speak
In the mouth of each Who speaks unto me
This day be within and Without me
Lowly and meek yet All-powerful
Christ as a light
Christ as a shield
Christ beside me
On my left and my right. Amen

Mercifully grant that we,
walking in the way of the cross,
may find in it none other than
the way of life and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Collect for 3rd Sunday in Lent, ASB)

Guardian of my soul,
guide me on my way this day.
Keep me safe from harm.
Deepen my relationship with you,
your Earth, and all your family.
Strengthen your love within me
that I may be a presence of your peace
in our world.

Prayer to Saint Anthony of Padua, Guide of Pilgrims

Dear Saint Anthony, we are all pilgrims. We came from God and we are going to Him. He who created us will welcome us at journey's end. The Lord Jesus is preparing a place for all His brothers and sisters. Saint Anthony, Guide of Pilgrims, direct my steps in the straight path. Protect me until I am safely home in heaven. Help me in all my needs and difficulties.

And some more

Pilgrim’s Prayer…….
God of the nomad and the pilgrim,
May we find our security in you
and not in our possessions.
May our homes be open to guests
and our hearts to one another
So that all our travelling is lighter
and together we reach our goal.
